At Windella Farm, we strive for continuous improvement in all areas, but especially when it comes to sustainability and the environment. As farmers, we are caretakers for our little plot of land and have a strong connection to nature, the nearby bushland and creeks and our rugged, beautiful country as a whole. As a result, every decision that we make in our business, from product development and operations to the final, packaged product is made with consideration of the environmental impact and our carbon footprint. 

Packaging

Packaging for skincare is necessary in order to get the product to you safely and contaminant free with ingredients clearly displayed, however we have made very conscious decisions about how best to deliver eco friendly packaging.

The new box packaging for our soaps has been carefully thought out to ensure it is as eco-friendly as possible. Firstly, if you don’t need the packaging, leave it to be reused. We offer the option to order your soaps ‘naked’ online, without packaging. We also encourage our customers to return empty boxes to us for re-use or leave them with your local stockist who will do the same. Our boxes are produced in Australia (lower carbon footprint) from sustainable FSC certified materials. They are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

For our skincare range, we prefer aluminium where possible as it is light weight and infinitely recyclable. We use glass for our small liquid products and if plastic is necessary due to weight or practical issues, we source recycled PET plastics so that we are giving old trash a new life. We are also initiating a refill program which will enable our face and body oils to be refilled at markets and at the farm. 

It goes without saying that any ingredient packaging received in the workshop is reused or recycled wherever possible. 

Ingredients 

To minimise our carbon footprint and support local producers, we source local ingredients wherever possible and look for sustainable, renewable options when choosing ingredients and suppliers. We are completely transparent about what goes into our products, with the full ingredients listed on every product in descending order. There are no artificial additives in our products, which help to prevent toxins polluting our waterways and environment. 

Animals

As lovers of all things fury, feathered or scaled, we practice ethical farming at Windella Farm, ensuring that the health and wellbeing of our herd is our top priority at all times. Our goats produce the raw milk that we use in our soaps and so their health and happiness is of upmost importance. They enjoy a nice long break every year and live out their retirement years in peace on the farm. 

It seems so obvious these days but of course we never test on animals and will not supply to countries where animal testing is required.
